Everything above is free, needs no account and keeps your file in the browser. It is still a browser: the page fetches a model before it can work, the work stops when the tab closes, and none of it records the live call.

- A speech or notes model has to be fetched before the first run. The browser is free to evict it later.

About these tools
Transcribe audio online without uploading
Use audio to text when you have an MP3, M4A, WAV or MP4. Audio to text is the generic drop. Transcribe a Zoom recording starts from the dated folder under Documents/Zoom and from audio_only.m4a. Interview transcription is the same Whisper pass, written for research and client tapes you cannot send to a cloud speech service. Voice memo to text is the path for iPhone Voice Memos and for WhatsApp voice messages saved as M4A or MP3. A WhatsApp .opus or .ogg file is refused here, and Vemoir for Mac does not import those either. All four pages share the 15-minute cap and three successful runs a week. Pick the spoken language. The tool does not translate.
Meeting notes from a transcript
If you already have words, skip Whisper. Meeting notes from a transcript turn a messy paste into a recap with decisions, actions and an optional follow-up email. Recording to meeting notes is the chain: file in, notes out, one weekly use for the whole pass. Zoom VTT to text strips cue numbers, timestamps and the WEBVTT header from a Zoom VTT, a Teams export or an SRT. Names stay if they are already in the file. If there are no names, the page says so and does not invent speakers. Cleaning a VTT does not spend a run. A link can hand the cleaned text to the notes page.
Free meeting minutes template
The meeting minutes template is a blank record: date, attendees, agenda, decisions, actions with owner and due date, open questions. Three starters cover a team sync, a client call and a board sitting. Speaker talk time reads a transcript that already has names and lists each name’s share of the words. If there are no labels, it stops. The meeting cost calculator adds each group’s headcount and CHF hourly rate for the same duration, then writes one sentence you can copy onto the sheet. None of these three downloads a model. They do not record the room and they do not judge whether the sitting was worth it.
How in-browser processing works
The page loads a published speech or notes model into this tab. After that, your file and paste stay in memory here. You can open the Network tab and confirm the audio is not posted. The first visit downloads the model. Later visits on the same browser can use the cache. Closing the tab does not send us the recording. An open tab can keep working with what it has loaded. That does not mean the page will reopen offline.
Questions
Can I transcribe audio for free without an account?
Yes. There is no signup. The weekly limit is a count stored in this browser, not a login.
Is my recording uploaded?
No. After the model is cached, inference stays in the tab. The audio is not posted to our servers.
What is the weekly limit?
Three successful model runs a week, shared across the transcription tools. Cleaning a VTT, filling a minutes sheet, talk share, and the cost line do not spend a run.
Why 15 minutes?
Browser Whisper is a trial. Longer meetings belong in Vemoir for Mac.
Can I record the meeting in this tab?
No. These pages read a file or pasted text. Live capture is the Mac app.
Do the tools label speakers?
Only if names are already in the file or paste. The browser does not run a speaker-separation model.
What about Swiss German?
Public Whisper usually writes Standard German. There is no dialect model in this download.
Which browsers work?
Current Chrome, or Safari 18 on Apple silicon, with storage allowed. A phone can struggle with the model download.
What is the difference between transcribe this recording and recording to notes?
Transcribe this recording stops at timestamped text. Recording to notes runs speech-to-text and then drafts a recap, and that whole chain is one weekly use.
Can I transcribe a WhatsApp voice note?
Yes, if you save it as M4A or MP3. A WhatsApp .opus or .ogg file is refused. Voice memo to text is the page written for that job.
